This Zimmermann hat is the coat of arms of the Carpenters' Guild.
This model is also known as a colletin hat; it's the leather hat of the portefaixes, whose wide brims protect the neck and shoulders. The uniform of the Forts de la Halle (...) the colletin, the large floured hat (J. de La Varende, Cadoudal,1952, p. 278).
