Anarchy Embroidery Beret - Traclet
According to the authors of "A cerclé, histoire véridique d'un symbole", this sign dates back to 1964.
It's a capital "A" surrounded by a circle. The ends of the typeface touch or extend beyond the circle. The A represents the first letter of the word anarchie (or anarchism) in many languages, making it an internationally recognizable symbol.
In order to "find a more practical and rapid way of minimizing the time and length of signatures under texts and slogans." A symbol as quickly identifiable as the cross, swastika or sickle and hammer. The circled A has the advantage of being easier to execute. However, it wasn't until after May 68 that it became commonplace the world over.
