Hat size guide

Quick tips - Sizing guides for your chef cover

The cut of a hat is a matter of personal preference. You want your hat to fit you and the way you want to wear it. A tighter fit is suitable for active people, think of a festival or a day at the beach. A looser fit is preferable for more comfortable, extended wear (4 hours or more) and sits lower on the head.

The shape and style of a hat can vary the size and fit, so we always recommend reading the size and fit guide on the product page of the hat you want to make sure you've chosen the right size.

A hat reducer is a great addition if you're not sure of the size. It can be used to adapt the size and cut of your new Traclet hat, as well as other brands (and add comfort at the same time).

Each Chapellerie Traclet piece is carefully designed, so that shape and silhouette vary slightly in the way it fits.

Use our size guide and the "size and fit" section of the hat of your choice to find your ideal size.

How to find your hat size?

Here are a few simple tips to help you find the perfect hat size for YOU. To measure your head accurately, you'll need a cloth tape measure. We also recommend that you enlist the help of another person, for greater accuracy.

Chapellerie Traclet hats are measured differently. We therefore recommend that you use a metric ruler to measure your head in centimeters, and check with the chart.

How to find your size?

How do you want to wear your hat? Choose from the options below and follow the instructions for your preferred option to measure your head.

Be sure to follow the instructions for your preferred option. There are significant differences between them.

Option 1: Traditional

This is the "traditional" style of hat wearing. Choose this option if this is how you're going to wear your hat.

1. Place your cloth tape measure around your head, above the occipital bone (the furthest part at the back of your head).

2. Bring the measurement around the front of your head. Place it about 5 mm above your ears and position it in the center of your forehead, or just above your eyebrows (depending on where you want your hat to sit). Make sure the ribbon is well positioned, as this is how the hat will sit on your head.

3. Check the size indicated on your measuring tape. If you don't have the same size, we recommend you go up a size and add a hat complement to your order to adapt the hat to your head.

Option 2: Halo style

This is the "halo" style of hat wearing. Choose this option if this is how you're going to wear your hat.

1. Place your cloth tape measure around your head, above your occipital bone (the furthest part at the back of your head).

2. Bring the tape measure to the front of your head. About 5 mm above your ears, position it at the top of your forehead (beginning of the hairline). Make sure the tape is well positioned, as this is how the hat will sit on your head.

3. Check the size indicated on your measuring tape. If you don't have the same size, we recommend you go up a size and add a filler to your order to adapt the hat to your head.

Option 3: For children

Here is the measurement method for children. Choose this option if you want to know if our size fits your child.

1. Place your cloth measuring tape around your head, above the occipital bone (the furthest part at the back of your head). This is the way we recommend kids wear the cap for comfort and to keep it on their noggin on windy beach days.

2. Bring the measurement to the front of your head. About 5 mm above your ears and position it in the center of your forehead, or just above your eyebrows (depending on where you want your hat to sit). Make sure the ribbon is positioned correctly, as this is how the hat will sit on your head.

3. Check the size indicated on your tape measure. If your tape measures less than 45 cm, we recommend our mini size for children (45 cm). If your tape measures between 45 and 53 cm, we recommend our child's size (53 cm) and a hat reducer to adapt the hat to your size. We do not recommend children's hats for heads over 53 cm.
