Bachi de marin Bleu - Traclet
Contrary to popular belief, the bonnet is not called a sailor's beret, but a sailor's cap, or Bachi in the French navy. The bachi is the name given to the headdress worn by sailors up to petty officers, and from the rank of petty officer upwards, a cap. In the French navy, the bonnet is topped with a red pompom. Normally fitted with a chinstrap to hold it in place in windy conditions, this model is fitted with a fixed chinstrap. Popular belief has it that the pom-pom was intended to cushion shocks, but this is not the case, as it is not adopted as the standard marine cap for other navies.
